DCES October 7th Principal Letter

10/10/2022 6:29 pm

Dear DCES Families,

It is hard to believe that we are already here at fall break. Our Cubbies have been working hard this first Quarter. Parent-teacher conferences will be on October 26, 27, & 28. Please take the time to schedule a virtual or in-person conference with your child's teacher. This is one of our favorite times of the year when we get to share how proud we are of our Cubbies and show off all the magnificent work and growth they have been doing this 1st Quarter.

Last week was wonderful to bring back our first ROAR assembly, where we honored two students from each class. Some students received a ROAR specials award too! These students were recognized for demonstrating outstanding ROAR expectations from August to October.

We look forward to welcoming families at our next assembly in January for 2nd Quarter. In addition, students are encouraged to show ROAR expectations inside and outside the classroom to be selected for January's ROAR students.

North Gate Project
We are excited to share that our north arrival/dismissal area project is underway. This project was funded by our Amazing Race fundraiser last year. We are incredibly grateful for our PTO and parent support for making this enhancement possible.

During fall break, a temporary fence will be installed, and we anticipate that the shade structure will be installed while we are on break. When families return, we will have a temporary path to access the office and arrival and dismissal gates. Once the shade structure is installed, the sidewalk and temporary fences will be removed. The project's last component will be the benches' installation after the concrete has been cured for 30 days.

We are looking forward to seeing the final product!

Be Kind School
We are proud to partner with The Be Kind People Project on Character Education programs to further strengthen the Culture of Kindness at DCES over the next year. The Be Kind People Project is a national 501c3 nonprofit with programs in hundreds of schools here in the valley and a nationwide presence. Their message of kindness, civility, and respect is aligned with our school and district strategic plan and focus. Students will participate in our first kick-off assembly on October 19th. The BE KIND CREW will deliver live assemblies to students using spoken word, dance, and a positive message of kindness. In addition, all teachers will receive access to the BE KIND Academy, an online resource with 75 lessons a month for our classrooms. The Be Kind Team will be working with us over the next year to help us earn a designation as a BE KIND SCHOOL! You may click on the be kind link to learn about the program that will be shared with our Cubbies. Be Kind School

Girls on the Run
The Girls on the Run will be back this year for 3rd-5th grade girls. Registration will begin in November. More information to come after fall break. Further information will be shared regarding our regular running club.

Book Fair
We are excited to have the book fair arriving after fall break. The first opportunity to shop for families will be October 21st, 5 pm-6 pm before movie night. After that, students will have a chance to shop with their class during the week, and parents will be able to shop after school. Please refer to the book fair letter for further details.
